Stephen King knew he wanted to write horror stories his whole life and published his first scary story in a fanzine, Comics Review, when he was 15. Like the Marsten House, the town has a creepy old house that King and his friends explored growing up. Jerusalem’s Lot is a fictional town, but it is based on the “Methodist Corners” area of Durham, Maine. Both the character of Ben Mears (a writer from Maine) and Mark Petrie (a boy obsessed with the macabre) resemble the author in his own words as he describes his upbringing in the autobiographical On Writing. Like many of his books, ‘ Salem’s Lot seems to be a thinly veiled autobiographical story about King himself injected with supernatural horror. The character of Ben Mears in Salem’s Lot(1975) is semi-autobiographical to Stephen King’s own life. Mears returns to Salem’s Lot after 25 years away to write his next book about the malevolent Marsten House, only to find that the house has been purchased by a vampire who is quickly taking over the town.

This new take on the concept is said to be set in 1975, the same year King’s novel was first published. The previous two were both mini-series, which aired in 19. Ward made his screen debut playing a zombie in World War Z, and has since gone on to play roles like the addiction demon on American Horror Story, the Enforcer on Teen Wolf, demons on Sleepy Hollow, Nosfertau on SpongeBob Squarepants, Pooka on Into the Dark, a zombie in Army of the Dead, a drone on Westworld, and a vampire on a Vampire: The Masquerade TV series. We suspect that may be the case because, according to One Take News, the character is being played by Alexander Ward, who has a lot of creature credits on his résumé. But judging by the casting, it seems like Dauberman might be looking to replicate the iconic, Nosferatu-like appearance of the vampire in Tobe Hooper’s 1979 mini-series version of Salem’s Lot. Director Gary Dauberman‘s adaptation of the Stephen King novel Salem’s Lot (buy a copy of the novel HERE) was recently pushed back from a September theatrical release date to April 21, 2023, so it will be a while before we have a chance to see how the film depicts the vampire Kurt Barlow.
